Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt has dropped hints over his Juventus’s future admits summer moves
However, De Ligt has been linked to joining his former manager, Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford this summer
Thomas Tuchel is also keen to sign the former Ajax defender this summer
Blues are going to lose two starting central defenders, and have two into their late 30s, so a second purchase is almost certainly going to be necessary.
The top of that list seems to be Matthijs de Ligt. The 22-year-old is a great player, with an established Champions League pedigree. But as it stands, he will be very expensive.
Football. London claims that there could be a wrinkle that makes things a little easier though – they say that the Dutch international will sign a new contract at Juventus, with a lower release clause than the existing €120m fee.
That would be a good compromise for the club, which would prevent their asset from getting closer to the end of his existing deal, while also allowing de Ligt to feel he still has a reasonable get-out clause
Speaking about the uncertain future at Juventus De Ligt said
“There are talks ongoing between me and Juventus. Once the right moment arrives, I will decide to extend or to look further”, tells NOS
The current deal expires in June 2024 – in case of the new deal, the release clause would be lowered [current one €120m].
