Arsenal legend Ian Wright has slammed Ralf Rangnick for claiming he wasn’t sure if Erik ten Hag was in attendance for Manchester United’s defeat against Crystal Palace
Wright branded Rangnick’s comments about Ten Hag as ‘a joke’
The Dutchman watched on at Selhurst Park as United was beaten 1-0 to end a sorry season in a fitting fashion.
Rangnick also claimed he hoped to speak to Ten Hag but didn’t confirm whether talks would definitely take place, which surprised many listeners
And, speaking on Match of the Day alongside Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, Wright tore into Rangnick for his comments.
“To hear Ralf Rangnick say he didn’t know he [Ten Hag] was there and saying that he was looking forward to [speaking to him], it’s a joke,” said Wright
“That’s a joke business, man. That’s just like crazy.”
Shearer seconded Wright’s comments, describing the situation as ’embarrassing’.
“Sums it up doesn’t it?” said Shearer.
“It’s embarrassing actually!”
Presenter Lineker finished off the condemnation by saying: “Amateur hour.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United has confirmed the appointment of Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag as assistants to new manager Erik ten Hag.
